Understanding the infrastructure requirements of a local council to better meet needs

The issue:

With local authority budgets coming under increasing pressure, it is vital that councils understand the infrastructure needs of their residents to provide the best possible service.

What we did:

We conducted a longitudinal study analysing a sample of 26,000 mobile operator customers in the area, reviewing the flow of groups of residents within the borough, over a one-month period. This was supplemented with analysis of the flow of 7,000 residents who leave the borough during the day to compare the requirements of these two groups.

Key insights:

With most residents tending to stay in the borough during the day, infrastructure needs within the borough are just as important as those linking the area to other parts of London.

Impact:

This new insight allowed the borough to review its current infrastructure projects and plan for new projects that would best suit the needs of its residents.
